Purchasing a new car

I bought new 6 years ago.
It's a small car but has a very solid feel to it.
No faults in the car since new.
I do my own servicing. The car is mechanically basic and easy to do oil changes and filters + brakes. This means it's a simple car for mechanics to work on also.

1 litre engine can easily exceed the speed limit on a motorway.

Petrol engines are very much less complicated than diesel and therefore less likely to develop difficult to diagnose and repair faults.

From an environmental point of view, you will have low emissions because of your low fuel consumption.

No experience as drive a diesel but heard EV drivers experience heavier tyre wear than the drivers of dinosaur cars.
I heard this too but the wear on my wife’s mid size Electric SUV much less than her previous slightly bigger diesel yoke, 40k kms and still a fair bit of thread left

Our large electric has 40k on it too, never replaced the tyres and there’s a fair bit left before they hit the limit indicators.

But there’s no doubt that EVs are 10-15% heavier than their petrol/diesel counterparts and basic physics tells you that will wear tyres more quickly. I suspect most EVs have bigger tyres so the actual change interval is similar.

Can happen as all the torque (turning power) of the electric motor is available from "low revs". It can take a while for EV acolytes to adjust to the new way of accelerating.

I have a Kia Sportage since 2017 and have no problems besides normal wear and tear, over years. Daughter has a Kia picanto since then also and besides the usuals a car needs, it has not given any issues.
There are good finance options on new picanto at the moment

Beat me to it. A car with enough electric range to do local hops and with an ICE for longer journeys where it gets opportunities to go into re-gen for the batteries and a 3-pin charger when at home. Plus lower road-tax. I pay €169/qtr on my 1.4 ICE.
6,000 miles or km a year hardly warrants the transitional step of a hybrid?

he only thing that concerns me about EVs is the cost of battery replacements. Someone told me this can be up to €15,000 for a new battery for some EVs, is this true? Anyone any real world experience of battery replacements and the costs etc.? 15k seems alot to me.
How much do you think a full engine replacement is at a main dealer?
