purchase of Freehold

Just as we were about to sign the final papers relating to our house purchase the solicitor advised us that we should purchase the freehold of the property in the near future. They quoted us a fee of 1,000 (inclusive of vat) for the work (excluding outlay). Any idea if this is a reasonable price for this work? Many thanks in advance.

Would you consider doing it yourself, I did it without any problems.

Why pay?
you can do this yourself for free - from my experience theres nothing involved.

Many thanks to you both. I most certainly will do it myself - i thought that I had no choice but go through the solicitor. They certainly lead me to believe that was the case...

It may not be as simple as some people have said, but it is relatively straightforward.

When you do get the vesting certificate, do yourself a favour and register it in the Land Registry straight away. It will save you untold hassle in the future.
