Are PRSI rates the same for an owner director who is an employee of his own company as for a regular employee?

No an owner director with more than 50% control is class S.

An ordinary employee is class A.

Thanks.
So it looks like owner director pays 4% (same as if sole trader?) whereas employee pays 4% and employer pays 10.75%.

I know Leo was talking recently about extending PRSI benefits to the self employed. From what I can see (Citizen Advice Bureau website), this hasn't extended to Jobseekers benefit or sick pay ? Is that correct ?

I'm surprised some college isn't offering a diploma in social welfare. Who the hell comes up with all these limits, schemes, conditions. There seems to be 24 PRSI classes alone, 5 minutes reading the PRSI guide would wreck your head. No vision, just hundreds of seemingly random rules.
