If you transfer your PRSA to an ARF as part of your pension arrangements, can

you then make further contributions to ARF and get tax relief?

Can a retired person have a PRSA?

Tks in advance.

An ARF is a post retirement product. You cannot contribute directly to an ARF, the contributions must come from a Pension/PRSA product.

A retired person can have a PRSA, up to the age of 75

tks B
So u can transfer PRSA to ARF under the conditions specified.
The you can start another PRSA & get tax relief.
Then transfer the new PRSA to your ARF.

Am I correct?

You can contribute to a PRSA while having an ARF if you have income that is pensionable.

Example.

Retire at 60. Put proceeds of PRSA / AVC into an ARF.

Get a new job.

Start a PRSA or AVC based on the wages from the new job.

Retire from that job at 65. Put proceeds of AVC / PRSA into the ARF.

I think that is possible.

You do not have to be in pensionable employment to contribute to a PRSA.

The Pensions Board have a document called [broken link removed] which is helpful.

It states "PRSAs are available to you regardless of your job or employment status. You can get a PRSA if you are a part-time or casual employee, a highly paid professional, self-employed, a homemaker, a carer, a jobseeker, a contractor, an employer, an employee or a partner in a partnership.

You can continue to contribute to a PRSA after you retire, as long
as you are not aged 75 or over."

Yes, but you won't get any tax relief if you don't have any taxable income.

And tax relief on contributions is the main reason to take out a pension.
