Cousin was recently elected regional chair of a professional association. He was chatting and would like to develop the association during his year - engage members , promote profession and also undertake some community / charity type project. The national association is very well organised but he feels alone in his mission. Any advice ? He has a small local committee - but wider membership doesn't come to meetings etc - he may be over thinking his role. Any advice for some small things he could do. Netw

He could sponsor local sporting teams, leaflet drop and set up a Facebook page/website, join the local Chambers of Commerce.

Thanks for reply. Organisation is regional basis. So not so local. And also very professional on national basis

engage members , promote profession and also undertake some community / charity type project.

Perhaps get a commitment from some of the members to agree to voluntarily give some talks or presentations to public forums. Not directly PR but more in the way in which the profession is, or can be, helpfully relevant to day-day lay people's concerns. He might contact local (lay) groups or organizations to which the work of the profession may have particular relevance to see if a topic could be tailored specifically to their interests - or even, perhaps, offer some limited free consultation time to some of these groups, if his membership would agree. Depends on the nature of the profession really.

he should go and talk to his Local Enterprise Office and the local chamber of commerce. They run events throughout a year that the body may be able to get involved in or sponser in some way.
