HI there : hope someone can offer their expertise.....
I get my internet connection through the following wi-fi adapter

and have been doing so for several months now.
It is connected to my laptop through a usb socket made available after I installed a "Standard Enhanced PCI to USB host controller" after the two existing USB sockets on the laptop packed up.
However, whenever I am availing of the internet service, I always find it is intermittent at best, i.e. it will work fine for a period of time then disconnect and automatically reconnect. I thought originally this was because in my old house, the wi-fi connection was always "Low" or "Very Low". However, I have since moved to a new place where the signal more often than not is "Good" or "Very Good" (even though I am three floors away from the wireless port). But I am still having the same problems.
Does anyone know why this might be? It is to do with the fact I am using the dongle through a secondary USB port, or will the problem solve by purchasing a "repeater" device?
