Problem wth Sony Cybershot

Anyone have one of these cameras and had problems with them? It costs about €100 to have it checked out so not sure if its worthwhile. Basically its just powering off when we turn it to the "take pictures" mode. Have tried resetting and it works sometimes but not consistently.

Don't take this the wrong way but have you checked the battery?I only say this after being humiliated in Argos of all places!!

Hi
I had problems too, where the camera would turn on, but would show a blank screen. This was preceded by several months of intermittant odd behaviour, eg zoom not working, not being able to scroll through pictures etc. All unfortunately just occurred outside waranty. A friend had similar problems, and has sent it back twice for repair under waranty(which would have cost a minimum of €200 in repairs if she had to pay for it herself). It's a pity, because the camera took excellent pics. Faced with a potentially large repair bill (like yourself), I figured it might work out cheaper to buy a newer, higher spec camera, for less that what I originally paid for the cyber-shot..Might work out cheaper to get a new camera, esp if anything else went wrong with it in the future..

We have now had another Sony Cybershot that we borrowed die with the exact same symptoms. This seems like a huge coincidence as it happened with an earlier model also - so three cameras in all. Like NicolaM we're reluctant to pay high charges to get them repaired but its certainly turning me against Sony cameras!

Anyone know of any good private camera shops in Dublin that will fix Sony cams?

Hi Toby
Apparently there have been problems with Sony-cybershot models, and if you google "sony service advisory" you'll find further info: e.g. :this link http://www.imaging-resource.com/NEWS/1164379168.html
gives the models of cameras that have been affected, and seems that free repairs were offered, even outside waranty, looking at the links I found. I can't find my camera model, but maybe yours is on it, and you could try for a free repair?

Nicola
