Prior Year AVC

Hi All, I have a defined benifit, non contributory pension with my employer. I am currently 34 years old. Last year I paid 4% AVC with my employer contributing a further 2%. I am considering making a prior years AVC contribution for the remaining allowable 14% from savings. This will amount to a payment of approx €10k. Is it the case that I can claim tax relief of 42% on this additional contribution? Also would such a contribution be advisable in the current climate? I would not consider myself adverse to risk and have my existing AVC's in 100% equities. Thanks in advance
