Apparently PTSB advise customers travelling abroad to notify them of dates/countries in advance to "stop any restrictions being automatically placed on your card while travelling". I'm new to PTSB and have not been abroad with PTSB cards yet. Do any PTSB customers on AAM ever notify them and, if not, do their cards work as normal?

That advice is not exclusive to PTSB customers, I have had the same from Bank Of Ireland. It seems a bit arbitrary in application though. I have travelled without informing them and used my card without incident. And I have travelled without informing them and have had a card refusal. I think it was more the nature of the transaction that caused the refusal, in each case it was too small and too far away from where they thought I should be. A quick call to them soon sorted it out in every instance.

I've also travelled when informing AIB and still had the card blocked by their fraud flags.
