Some incredible snobbery in this thread. Ireland is as ridden with class-based prejudice as anywhere else. "How dare a plumber charge €400 per day or €80,000 per year to cover their overheads, travel costs, taxes and living costs?"

Sadly, that is true to an extent across much of Ireland.

However, it shouldn't be confused with someone wanting to get the very best deal etc. (not that I'm saying you have confused the two here btw).

If your own plumbing went somewhat wrong a surgeon wouldn't be too long charging you multiples of €400 to cover an hour or two.
