Price of Mackerel fillets.

Our local butchers is selling mackerel whole for €5 per kilo. If you purchase the mackerel fillets there are priced at over €11 per kilo. Is there much waste in the head and tail etc to justify this price difference or is the price all about convenience?

fisherman sells them for 90c per whole mackrel just go to your local fisherman.

Its both. The yield on Mackerel should be about 60%, so 40% is wasted when you fillet it. The butcher is entitled to charge you for the work in filleting it, and disposing of the rubbish.

Alos, suimhneach, lot's of us dont have a local fisherman. That advice is only applicable to small pockets of the country.

I would be pleased to see fish being even more expensive.
World stocks are getting dangerously depleted, so it should be expensive.
