I have been told you can vote for Jim Gavin..and say Catherine Connolly ....Jim's vote will transfer and Catherine Connolly vote will actually count , and this action of ticking both , will not spoil the voting paper ...I'm dubious ...any thoughts

Ticking both will be a spoilt vote. If you write a number 1 beside Jim Gavin and a number 2 beside CC, it's a valid vote. Jim will most likely be eliminated on the first count and the vote will transfer to CC

For there to be a second count JG > CC - HH and this is highly unlikely as has been pointed out by @Duke of Marmalade in another thread.
