I am being made redundant at end of this month. I will be 30 weeks pregnant at that point.

Should I be applying for Maternity Benefit at this point?

Or should I apply for Jobseekers benefit now and apply for MB nearer the due date?

HI this happened to someone i know
You have to be working to get your mat benefit. You can start at 30 weeks tho as far as I know so you should apply now with a view to starting when you are made redundant
As far as I know if you went on to Jobseekers benefit then you would not be entitled to Mat Benefit so you would need to find another job at 30 weeks pregnant.

Check if this is still the case of course -take care of yourself

You can apply straight away for maternity benefit:

Maternity Benefit is paid by the Department of Social and Family Affairs to women who have a certain number of paid PRSI contributions on their social insurance record and who are in insurable employment up to the first day of their maternity leave. The last day of work can be within 16 weeks of the end of the week your baby is due.
