Hi All

Would appreciate any up-to-date information on my query - My dad is in reeipt of the PRA. How much can my mother earn before his allowance is deducted? They have one dependent child at home (College Student)

I have looked it up on Oasis but latest info is dated July 2005

Thanks a lot

Pre-Retirement Allowance (PRETA) is a means-tested payment. If your mother works your father's payment may be affected but it's complicated.

Have a look here http://www.welfare.ie/publications/sw80.html#4

I think the €88.88 figure changed to €100 last year.

Look here also http://www.welfare.ie/foi/preta.html#deduction

Because it's means tested your father's personal rate may be affected by your mother's earnings. Also, the increases he gets for your mother and the child may be reduced (depending on her earnings)

http://www.welfare.ie/publications/sw19/sw19_sect2.html#2.4 and http://www.welfare.ie/publications/sw19/sw19_app1.html#app1

I think the best advice is to ask in your nearest Social Welfare Local Office or ring the relevant section to find out the exact figures.

Hope this helps
