Hi there,

I’ve been offered a job in the public system but before confirmation I have to go through a medical exam. Has anyone had to do this and what does it consist of?
Thank you.

I've done it. It's no big deal. All the usual involved i.e. blood pressure, fitness, physical appearance, stetescope heart job etc. No internal probing. Warning:- Don't score any own goals.

Hi Leper, thanks for the reply. How long was your medical?
Did they give you any questionnaires to fill in?
Thanks.

From memory there was no form filling by me. However, every inch of skin from ankles to head was inspected. The Medical Officer (doctor) did ask me some questions regarding health matters. I should point out I was moving from one Public Service department to another hence the medical examination. The whole episode lasted not longer than 40 minutes.

If the public sector are so thorough in their pre-employment medicals, why is there endemic sickness leave in the PS?
