Posting Guidelines are being ignored.

The overall quality of posts is diminishing and I’m sorry, but I think the mods and long-service posters need to help by observing and implementing the Posting Guidelines.

For example, although a recent post in the technology thread contained “VM BB” in the title, a mod responded as they knew what VM BB stood for. I didn’t and I’d venture I wouldn’t have been alone. Can I point out that anyone searching for “Virgin Media BroadBand” will be missing that thread from their search results, maybe not the end of the world in this particular case but I see it as part of a trend.

More and more “txt spk” is creeping in. Surely XenForo or some of the plug-ins can detect these and refuse the post if they aren’t corrected.
Suggestion: scan new posts for common “txt spk” and substitute a string of asterisks for them, something like what happens for swear words.

Agree with you on "VM BB". I would have thought that someone had hacked my voicemail if I had seen that.

I presume it's since been edited?

I delete posts with meaningless titles such as "Mortgage question" and tell them to read the Posting Guidelines. But it's amazing how many people respond to posts with these meaningless titles.

It annoyed me more in the past than it does now. I work from a desk top, touch typing on a keyboard, so I can type, long, well punctuated sentences.

Ors wrk frm their fone. Younger people in particular and we have to strike a balance between encouraging younger people to ask questions and telling them to speak proper!

The main criterion is that their post is intelligible. If it's not, they are usually told so fairly quickly and amend it accordingly.

I have cable broadband but want to upgrade to full fibre. I’ve put in a cancellation request and VM have offered to upgrade the connection for free and give me the usual 9 months half price. Bonkers.ie have a current VM offer of 40 pm, 24 month contract for new customers .VM tell me this doesn’t...

Presumably plain VM BB

They added the bit about new contract with spouse.

OK. I never used text speak myself. I wasn't a fan of predictive text either - mainly because it reminded me of an ex girlfriend who used to finish all my sentences for me.
 
VM and BB are abbreviations in common use, Virgin have them included in the list of search terms they pay to direct towards their own site, but that user did update the thread title when asked.

"VM" and "BB" in the context of the service providers or technology forums or a thread obviously on such topics might be obvious to many people. But over my lifetime I've found that it's generally better to spell things out and try to use plain language in order to avoid unnecessary confusion.
