Pole to stop cars being taken from driveway

Hi,

My sister was broken into last night and the guards said that it seems they were after her car. She now wants to get a pole that you can put into a slot in the middle of your gate way to prevent the car being taken.

Does anyone know who would install one on the outskirts of Dublin?

I'm not sure what they're called and not sure I'm explaining it properly but hopefully someone knows!

Thank you,

Paulsgirl

Found this .... Dublin based.

They may not have what you want but they might be able to steer you in the right direction:

Had one installed recently used a guy NRE ireland. Supplies and fits from about 80 euro. No connection, but would recommend . BTW there called parking posts.

Just google "parking posts ireland", there are several suppliers. - just make sure that there insured! you never know whats under the ground.

Why are they particularly keen on her car?
Is it very powerful i.e a good getaway type car.

If so I would be inclined to let them have it.

My thinking is if you put the pole in etc, that they will just break in for the keys.

My husband keeps his keys under his pillow...I warn him if any skanger comes into our bedroom looking for his keys...I will kill him myself.

If on the other hand their is nothing special about her car....the pole will encourage them to move on to an easier mark.

Nah, it's the deterrent factor.
They'll just move onto the next house if they see that there rather than have to factor it in.....

Bit like having an alarm on a house. If you have one and the neighbour doesn't then the neighbour is an easier target.

Its a new and powerful car. There is nothing else that would make them break in, her house looks the same as everyone elses on the road. The guards said they are targetting houses with new cars.

The issue isn't that she wouldn't let her car go, she doesn't want them to even try to attempt to break into the house again to get the keys as now she's living in fear.

A consultant/doctor friend once told me he always leaves his carkeys (as do his friends) on the kitchen table* - that way, when they break in - they're not inclined to go upstairs to look for the keys.

(They've seen the results in hospitals where these guys go upstairs for the keys)

*ok; maybe not the kitchen table but somewhere out of sight in the kitchen but where they could be easily found by an intruder

7 years ago we had a breakin at 5am on a weekday. According to the guards, the modis was that they climbed over each back garden wall in the street, banged on a window of each house, continuing onwards to the next house. If an alarm went off or a dog barked, they just continued, if there was no deterrant, they came back, snapped the patio door lock, came in and take whatever was handy. In my own case, I disturbed them and got a smack for my trouble. They took the car keys, but left them in the garden, probarbly did not like my car!

As a result, we moved house. Subsequently, we have gates with a post behind them, anti snap cylinders on all the doors, and the alarm goes on everynight.

My wife got one company to do the lot. We have not been broken into since, while other houses in our area have.

I think an alarm box that give off a neon flasher indicating that its on along with a high visibility parking post should be enough to deter any one.

I think they can and do target powerful cars specifically.
So I would have an alarm, light sensor (but not one that shines into the neighbours bedroom...like the one across the road from us)
Maybe the pole...but I would be dubious enough about the pole....because the keys are obviously with the car keys. In my view if they want the car, they have to get the keys...

I hate the thought of moving back to all this crap.
We barely lock our door, never lock our car...leave bikes out the front unlocked with gate open....why am I moving home again??
