please help being made redundant

I find this site great and I am hoping to receive some of your expert advice.
I have been with the company for almost 9 years (almost since it started off) We were told that things are not looking good for the company. So the other day I was told I was being made redundant. As far as I am aware they are not closing down the company. I am the only one being made redundant as far as I can make out.
The thing is they were saying about the statutory payment and did not offer me any ex gratia payment. However I am meeting with them to discuss the redundancy and fill out paperwork.
I know by law all they have to give me is the statutory payment but because we are a small company and no union I have to fight my own case for extra payment. A few people I have been speaking to are getting 5 or 6 weeks plus the statutory for each year of service. I want to go in armed with information but I know there is usually different payouts for each sector. We are in the industrial supplies industry.
Please help dreading going in to fight this for extra payments but I need all the money I can get.

Why is it only yourself being made redundant? You need to make sure that this is done fairly and if you are in any doubt at all, take some legal advice. They do not have to offer you anything on top of statutory really. However you need to make sure that this is a real redundancy - if it is you personally they want out (and not the position) then you are in a better position for negotiating a fuss free exit in return for a more generous payment. Take some professional advice.

By the way, 6 weeks plus statutory would be considered extremely generous, 6 weeks including statutory is very good, and around 4 weeks per year is OK (IME)

Yes I agree with the above, I went through the same a while back. Even though legal advice appeared expensive at the time it actually helped a lot as they explained my exact standing and dealt with the company rather than myself, so I didn't get as much hassle or stress.

Fill out nothing before getting professional advice on deal, take their offer away, and state you will sign after seeking professioanl advice.

Ask why you are not getting same package, detailed reasons, documented if possible.
