My girlfriend and I have just moved back from the U.K and as a newly qualified Physio she is simple unable to get a job we regularly check ALL the papers but very few posts seem to be comming up. She has even tried to get work as a care assistant anything to work with people in the caring field but is seen as over qualified for these posts. Anyone any ideas as to why so few physio posts are comming up? do we not need physio's in Ireland anymore and even if a post occasionally does come up how many people are likely to apply when you thing of all the other graduates looking for employment!

What part of the country do you live in.. As there are plenty of physio posts in Dublin as I have a friend who also worked in the UK and returned to Ireland.
She like yourselves did find it difficult however she worked privately for a while for a sports physio centre and has never looked back:)

I'm a physio and got my first job in Dublin in 1999, having trained in the UK. It was tough to get the post, but then a few years later the hospitals were crying out for staff. It seems to go in cycles. Frequently, there's a ban on recruitment due to finances even though staffing levels are insufficient. I think new grads are finding it tough, but more senior staff are getting jobs. Depending on her level of experience, maybe try a private practice? Some owners are willing to take on new grads and train them up, but this will obviously be reflected in the pay. A few of my friends did it and got great experience - better than in the hospital setting (if she's interested in specialising in out-patient type work/sports injuries).

I also think UK-trained physios are well thought of - I believe the schools over there generally have good reputations and so that should stand to your girlfriend.

Thanks for the replies
We are based in Wicklow/Dublin, while there do seem to be senior post advertised, there seem to be very few basic grade posts advertised, the girlfirend has approched a number of private clinics offering to do voluntary work to get some experience, but no joy seems there are a lot of newly qualified physio's doing the same thing.
Just have to keep trying I guess.

I'll get the girlfriend on them straight away, with the cost of living in Ireland you'd need two salaries, still good to be back.
