Sorry to hear of pending unemployment, it's getting rough out there.
As far as I am aware there are as many types of funding as there are types of PhDs!
Your best bet is to contact universities directly and have a chat. You will need to be eligible also ( do you have a 2h1 or 1st or masters?).
You must also think about what your aim is AFTER the PhD. You will be out of practice for 3 to 5 years which is a long time in law. Are you interested in academia?
I'd just sound the warning note that full time lecturing positions are few and far between also with a huge amount of interest. Only the elite few with extensive experience and long publications lists, research credentials etc seem to get those coveted positions.
Part-time or contract lecturing is more accessable I would have thought.
