Peter McVerry Trust in the news again. Were always highly critical of landlords, but I don't think any private sector landlord would provide accommodation like this - ants, mould, damp and japanese knot weed. It seems nothing is being done by them about this. They ran some ineffective spray over the ants and that is about it.

If the NGOs came across a private landlord doing this, we'd never hear the end of it.

There could be a lot more McVerry Trust rentals like this.

The Trust must have bought the house with taxpayer funds and let it fall into squalor. The neighbours must be delighted with the knot weed.

Unbelievable. And people complain about professional large corporate landlords. I’ve never heard of Ires REIT being slumlords.

I see their former auditor has been rapped on the knuckles for not being independent.

From what I recall before they collapsed they were in the media morning noon and night complaining about private landlords.

I really doubt any private landlord would produce something as bad as this - broken central heating for the last 18 months and faulty wiring as well. That family would be better off in emergency accommodation.

Maybe they were bought in that condition, wonder who the seller was...
Possibly, and likely overpaid as well.

Fine to buy a property in poor state. This was a favourite of trademen landlords in the past. Find something cheap and half falling down. Do it up yourself with help from trademen friends at cheap rates. Then rent it out.

Nothing wrong with McVerry buying a wreck. But they have to bring it up to a habitable condition if they have a tenant living in it. That means fix the mould, the damp, the knot weed, the structural issues, the faulty wiring, the broken heating system. It seems none of this was done, but they put a tenant in to it and left her there.

Why doesn't the tenant buy some mould spray, buy some ant powder and clean up their own garden? The photo of the garden shows all sorts of detritus littering the garden. Who put that there? If it was the tenant then they should have to clean it up. The mould on the wall and door could be cleaned off with a damp cloth and some mould spray. I'm not saying that the problems aren't real and I'm not a fan of the McVerry Trust, or the "Homelessness" Industry in general, but unless the tenant has some sort of diminished mental or physical capacity they should be responsible for cleaning their home and maintaining their garden.

I'm currently living in a rental house and I have to clean mould off the bathroom and bedroom walls regularly. It takes 30 minutes every week of so. It's not a big deal. I also cut the grass and tend the garden. If any of us breaks anything my wife or I replace it at our cost. My landlord is charging for the provision of the house, he's not being paid to be our mammy.

There are times I regret not getting involved in the NGO/Charity game. The opportunities for networking within the "industry" are endless and the rewards are er, rewarding.

The Peter McVerry Trust(PMVT) rented an apartment for four years from a former senior figure in the Dublin Regional Homeless Executive (DRHE), its single largest public funding agency.

The apartment was rented between 2021 and 2024 from the unnamed landlord before the arrangement was terminated by mutual agreement, according to financial statements published by the homeless and housing charity.

Terminated by mutual agreement only when the goings on in the Peter McVerry Trust became public.

Peter McVerry Trust seems to have been an incredibly corrupt organisation.
