Hi all,

Heading over to a wedding in Perth in November and we're thinking of stoping off in Vietnam for about a week before. Now we were thinkin of heading to Hanoi and then to Ho Chi Mingh but think that basing our stay around Ho Chi Mingh would be less of a rush. Would there be pleny to see around Ho Chi Mingh like City which is obvious but we'ld like to head to the country for a bit too and then maybe a beach for a day or two.

Also, Trailfinders have quoted us 1600. Is that kinda price to be expected.

Also Perth: We're thinkin of a week+ here too. Anybody been. Were four lads in mid thirties +.

Thanks

Ho Chi Minh is a good stop if you haven't been there before - most interesting things are about the 'American' war I would say. It would make a good stop for 2 days, there are beach places an hour or two outside HCM, but can't remember the names of. I wouldn't spend more than 4 days in Vietnam, spend the time in lovely OZ!

Your flights sound like a bargain. Put in context we paid €1000 each for flights into Hanoi and home via HCM.

Depending on how long you have in Vietnam - you say a week ish? I would probably do HCM and Hoi An. Hoi An is my favourite place on the planet but it is an internal flight and a taxi from HCM but worth it IMO. We spent 5 nights in Hoi An and 3 in HCM and can't wait to go back.

Hubby preferred Hanoi to HCM but I loved HCM. We also went to Hue but that is an awful kip though historically interesting!

Ho Chi Minh is probablythe least interesting part of Vietnam by a mile and even then its still good fun. Hanoi much more interersting and you can do an overnight to Halong bay on a junk boat from there for $70 ( world heritage site) and for the beach Hoi-an is beautiful. The Sapa region in the North is also a very special experience that you won't get anywhere else. "Ho" is very much the big westeren influenced city nowadays and if you want to really get a flavour of Vietnam you should think further afield.

If on the other hand your just looking for a few days stopover on the way to Oz then anywhere will do I suppose.

Personally I'd skip Oz altogether and enjoy the delights of Vietnam or as long as possible. 4 days indeed :)

hi,
just back from perth, would recommended the bursewood resort and casino to stay in, the intercontinental hotel, 4 or 5 stars, although i think they also have a holiday inn on the resort which is probably cheaper. it's just outside the city, 5 mins into perth centre on the train, they have helicopter rides over the city, a good casino and some very good restaurants, bursewood dome is on the complex too where they have concerts. close to bursewood golf course, really cheap for round of golf, renting golf buggies etc can be organised through the hotel.
good nightclub and a choice of bars, from an irish bar through to cocktail lounge.
enjoy your trip!
