Personal credit rating - does it cross borders?

Hi,

I'm emigrating soon and have had a some trouble paying a loan back to Ulster Bank.
I'm working it out with them but I've been told that my credit rating has been affected.
If I go for a loan in the country I'm moving to, will they check my credit rating in Ireland?

In theory there is nothing stopping them from doing that, but I have never heard of it happening.
