I am enquiring for a colleague.
Nurse worked for about 10 yrs as class d nurse in public service. From about 92 to 2002
She also had about 3 yrs temp service.
She moved to private sector and is convinced she got the money she had paid into her pension returned to her

Questions.
Can she request to return the money to hse so that her years worked in the hse are eligible for a pension.
If she is allowed to reestablish her pension for the 10 permanent years can she request to buy back her temporary service .
She is turning 60 yrs soon and as a class d if she has an entitlement she should be able to apply ,provided she can revrse a very costly decision to take back her pension money 20 yrs ago

Any advice/information is most welcome

At present, you can only get a refund of pension contributions if you have been in the scheme for under two years. Some years ago, it was five. So I think she's mistaken if she thinks she got a refund after 10 years, unless, for some reason she wasn't in pensionable employment for at least 5 of those years.

That's the first place to start. Get her to ask the HSE pensions office to look at her record and confirm whether or not she has a benefit in the superannuation scheme.

I'd agree with Dave. If you were in the scheme for five or more calendar years you were definitely vested. Memory escapes me as to when two year vesting came in, but even in the prima facie scenario outlined there should be an entitlement to retirement benefits. Contact the local pension section and they will let them know the lie of the land and give her a costing to buy back any optional years.

Contact details for local pension sections are below. Go for the office covering the last place you worked.
