My father in law has asked me to do his tax return for 2024.
He and his wife (recently deceased), had only pension income (UK & Ireland pensions) during 2024. My FIL used to have rental properties etc, so was previously self-assessed and had his accountant do a tax return via ROS for 2023. Does the fact that he has UK pension income mean that he should continue to be self-assessed, or is it okay to cease his registration for income tax and file a form 12 via myaccount?
His income tax payment was minimal, so he will have a small refund to get based on medical expenses / nursing home fees. Total income between FIL & MIL was just under €42k, total medical expenses just under €48k, total tax paid €145.
