I work at a third-level institution. Although I am technically considered an employee of the institution, my entire salary is provided by a government research body. My contract explicitly states:
Despite this, the pension levy (at least that's what I assume it is, it says "Pension Related Decuction") is coming out of my paycheque. How can I be paying a pension levy if I don't have a pension?

PENSION: This employment does not entitle you to membership of the Education Sector Superannuation Scheme. The Institute does offer the opportunity to pay into a PRSA Scheme offered by either Cornmarket Group Financial Services Ltd or Marsh Ireland Ltd which is deductible from salary.
