Hello, I am researching changing Pension fund manager for an existing pension(ARF's) currently with Standard Life. The new organisation I am working with are asking for my approval to allow them get access to my existing fund so they can model a plan for myself. I wonder is it usual or desirable to allow the new potential provider see these details or a necessary part of any change?

That makes sense to me. How can someone construct a plan or proposal for you without knowing what you already have? It forms a key part of the plan.

It's standard procedure. A good financial broker will compare what you have with what they're suggesting so they need to know the technical details of what you have before they can do that. There are multitudes of policy types and charging structures out there and they won't know what type you have until they have a look.

Make sure that what you're signing is just an authority to obtain information, for the time being.
