Hi,
The pension plan/funds my employer have organized are Irish based providers.
Why is this? Can we not just find the best performing pension fund globally and invest in them as appropriate?
Thanks.
Mick.

Can we not just ........

Suggestions and will Employer and Revenue agree?

Check out Morning Star Ratings for Pensions in the UK, as an example - some very positive performances.
Are there restrictions from Revenue where your private pension is invested?
If that is so, it is a very small pool to choose from.

There is nothing at all to stop your pension fund from investing in funds in the UK.

The pensions vehicle would probably have to be Irish. It would make no sense for a foreign provider to set up the organisation required for Ireland.

You might try to understand how those returns were generated before getting too excited. In particular note the fall in sterling has a profound impact on the returns of up pension funds.

There are thousands of different funds available for pensions in the UK. Some have performed well, others not so well.

A lot of those funds are also available in Ireland, fund managers such as Blackrock, State Street, Vanguard, Threadneedle, Schroders etc

The issue may be with the scheme trustees and the choice they are offering the employees but the choice is certainly there.
