Hi,

Has anyone any experience of accessing an Irish pension fund early? This would be access before retirement age where there's no ill health or long term sickness involved.

Is it possible? Are there any specialist companies/advisers in this area? What is the process and cost involved?

I appreciate there have been some scams in this area, particularly in the UK, but just wondering if anyone has come across it before.

Thanks,
Daniel

It depends on what type of plan you have:
-an occupational pension: where you can draw the benefits down after age 50, but generally only with the Employers consent
- Self Employed pension: where you can only draw the benefits down from age 60

Otherwise (ignoring ill health) you cannot access the funds, unless you leave service (an occupational pension with less than two years service) where you can seek a refund of your personal contributions.
