You will qualify for a Retirement Pension if you:* It is not necessary to give up employment. You can be employed part-time and earn less than €38 per week paying PRSI at Class J or earn less than €3,174 per year if you are self-employed.
- are aged 65
- are retired from insurable employment*
- satisfy the social insurance contribution conditions.
The retirement condition ceases to apply on reaching age 66.
Who can qualify for old-age non-contributory pension?

- are aged 66 or over,
- satisfy the Habitual Residence Condition (see leaflet SW 108),
- satisfy a means test (see means test guideline for Old Age Non-Contributory Pension),
- live in the state while getting this pension (see 'What happens if I leave the state?')
- have a valid Personal Public Service Number (PPS No.) (see how to apply)
Please apply for Old Age Non-Contributory Pension 3 months before reaching age 66. This is to allow enough time for us to process your application.
