Long time lurker, first time poster here. I had a capital gain on the sale of a house in 2021. I paid the capital gains tax in full and on time. I didn't file the return however (stupidly).
I (last month) volunteered to the Revenue Commisioners that I had forgotten to file the return and they've charged me a 10% penalty for late filing.
My question is: is there any logic in appealing the penalty? My thinking is that Revenue got their tax in full and on time so what's the material difference to them if I happen to file the paperwork late.
Thanks in advance
