Hi guys

I have a problem with my PC at the moment that is annoying me! During gameplay it seems to shut down after about 15 minutes. It has happened me before but it used to last about 2 hours before it shut down. Now it is just annoying me! I have read up about this and it seems it is probably got to do with my PC overheating as it is fine while I am online or just playing music etc...The only game I play is Football Manager 2008 so it isn't to do with high end grahics etc...

Has anybody had this problem in the past? I believe if I put some thermal compound between the heatsink and the CPU it will cool it down but will it cool it down enough? Thermal compound is cheap and I was thinking of buying some as I have cleaned the fan recently due to some dust build up and notice that the compound is fairly low as it is. Would I be better off just bringing it to a repair shop to see what they make of it? Should I just go ahead and apply the compound as I won't do any harm to the computer and if the problem is still there after I apply it then I can bring it to the repair shop.

Any help is appreciated.

Cheers

Have you tried running a suitable temperature/fan monitoring tool (try ) to check if overheating might be the problem? Overheating could be a problem from the sounds of things but you need to (a) ascertain that this is actually the case and (b) then pinpoint the location and cause (e.g. it could be the main CPU, chipset, RAM, graphics card/GPU etc. etc.).

Cheers Clubman - I'm not an expert with the ins and outs of computers so I was just wondering what a normal temperature during gameplay should be?

Well you should be able to see the difference between normal use and game playing. Try leaving the side of the case off and see if that makes a difference.
