Hi Guys,
I'm sorry if this is a stupid question but Im not great with tax/maths etc, clueless.
Ive googled a lot and cant get a grasp on it.

Basically I started for the company back in March.
I get paid every fortnight.
I'm just wondering on my payslip under Tax/USC status it says W.
Just wondering what this means or is it standard.

Id appreciate any help.

Hello

It means your tax is calculated on a week 1 basis.

This link to Revenue website should help to explain it.

You should contact Revenue to tell them what you were doing at start of year/ before this current job and then they will up date their system and hopefully you will move to “normal” basis ..

Thanks so much for the information. I will give them a call to try to get on to a normal basis.
By being a W status, what difference is it to being on normal status, I'm sorry if that's a stupid question.

Hello,

Nothing to wrong with it! If you are working for say all the year you mightn’t even see a difference..

If however your wage goes up and down or if you weren’t working for some of the year, the tax credit and rate bands mightn’t get fully used under the week 1 basis. It’s always best that they are fully used so that you don’t end up paying too much tax- that why you should try and get Revenue to move you to a normal basis
