Payment of Preliminary Tax in Instalments?

Apologies for the trivial question but I can't get through to Revenue on the phone and there's limited info on ROS. I'm just wondering if it is possible/OK for a sole trader to pay preliminary tax in multiple instalments via debit card before the pay & file deadline rather than via DD, or the full amount via RDI? I would like to pay half of my liability now and the remainder as I get paid throughout the rest of the year.
 
Why would you want to lend money to the Revenue ?

Just put it in a savings account
 
And if something happens between now and the end of the year, your estimate could be completely wrong and you could end up trying to get your money back from the Revenue.
