Paying tax on dividends

Hi, presently doing a tax return (form E12),for the year 2011.
On it we declare capital gains / shares sold etc for 2011 etc.

However we got dividends for the previous 4 years, and am unsure if we can pay the capital gains on these on this form,(some of which there were no gains) or if we have to fill out one form for each of the last four years?

Im not 100% sure that I have filled in it correctly (still in process),,would anyone know if I can bring it into the tax office and if they would go through it with me?
Thanks in advance

You can bring it and I'm sure they'll try and help you, but they're under no obligation to minimise your tax liability, and if they / you make a mistake you won't really have any comeback with them the same as you would if you'd paid an accountant.

Just worth noting dividends are income and subject to income tax, not CGT.

So if you have 4 years' dividends to declare you may have 4 income tax returns to file / amend...

Thanks mandlebrot,
would you know if I have to fill out form 12 for each of those years ( only extra income was dividends) or form 11?

I presume that the amounts are very small?

If you go into the Revenue, and propose to fill in the total of the last 4 years on the 2011 form, I presume that they would be happy with this?

As a point of note your Capital Gains should have been completed in two parts for last year. If not already done you're going to have to do a late submission.
