paying property tax

I bought a house in 2003 but in 2004 decided to go travelling and so let out the house. The end of this year I rang the tax office to pay tax but they said i would be notified of this in the post. Am i supposed to register somewhere first? I have paid the €70 tenants fee but have yet to hear anything more form the tax office and I havent a clue how all this works. I will probably sell it at the end of this year but am in the second year of having it rented out and so am afraid I will be fined for not having paid tax yet, what do I need to do? I'm absolutly clueless about this and dont know where to start!

Tax in this country is either PAYE or self Assesment and this falls into the 2nd. It is your responsibility to calculate the tax that you owe and to pay it. If you do not pay it on time then you are liable for interest and penalties. If you do not have an accountant ask the tax office to send you out the forms to fill in or go to the tax office and pick them up.
