Hi

I am working for my current employer for close to three years now on contract my first two contracts were yearly the last one ended in January since then I have moved dept but have not received a new contract when I asked they said I was on a week to week but I have never received anything in writing from them, Can they do this? Also I have never received any kind of payrise since I started again when I asked they said I wasn't entitled to one? Surely I should get the basic cost of living rise?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Thanks
T

1. No automatic entitlement to a pay-rise. Unless you are a civil servant of course.

2. (off the top of my head) I'm pretty sure that after completing two year long contracts you are now protected under the Unfair Dismissals Act. They cannot treat you as a weekly employee or try and fire you with a weeks notice

3. You are legally entitled to your terms and conditions; Unions are good for some [broken link removed] .

Presumably you are getting paid the going daily rate for contractors in your field? If not and they are treating you as a permanent employee without the giving you the standard permanent employee rights then you should be looking for a new job because that is a crazy and abusive setup to be in. And don't forget to put down that you have 3 years contracting experience on your CV :)

Thanks for the replies I have sent out my cv to a recruitment agency .... and no I am not getting the daily rate for contractors : (

Thanks again

There is no right in law to any pay rise.

But you might expect to get an annual review?

If you don't get a pay rise to match HICP inflation, then your real wage is falling.
