We are looking at changing our gas and elec supplier and I have been looking at the pay as you go option as opposed to bill. Has anyone done same and if so do they recommend it or would I be better sticking with the billpay and getting something like the Nest system as an example.

Our elec bill averages about 130 every 2 months and the heating would average out at over 200 every couple months at the mo.

Cheers

The metered pay as you go options are all significantly more expensive than the bill pay plans. Use comparison sites like Bonkers to work out what is the best option for your usage.

If the motive is to understand/optimise your consumption, a nest and an electrcity monitor ( https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00I2XM5RS/ref=s9_dcbhz_bw_d0_g147_i1_sh ) could do the trick without the ongoing work (and higher prices) of prepaid utilities.

The recommendation for that electricity monitor came from http://www.mrmoneymustache.com/2015/03/25/cut-your-power-bill/
