Passport renewal for citizen abroad.

I am living abroad in a country with a poor postal service. Is it legal to renew a passport when in ireland on holidays with say your parents address or do they need your abroad address? Not lived in ireland for over 10 years
 
I would recommend doing it when home as you can get your photo witnessed at any Garda station.

Getting someone abroad to witness it can be tricky and it’s more likely to be scrutinised.
