Hi rivtre,
Yes, you're right about Essential Connect Family offering is very poor value for money, given the price @ 2580pa.
The one good thing is that the hips and knee surgery was fully covered, no excess or shortfall.
The following plan is worth considering, that ticks all the boxes they require. Details as follows;
1. Laya Simply Connect; price 1100pa; all public, private and 3 hi-tech hospitals covered, private or hi-tech hospital excess capped at
150 x 2 max per year for all admissions( regardless of how many admissions in a year), day case excess 50 per procedure.
There is no excess to pay in any public hospital.
Good day to day cover included, 1 euro excess, refund of 50% for gp visits, consultant visits, dental, optical etc - subject to a max refund
per year of 500. There is no waiting applied for day to day cover, allowable straight away. This is a very good plan that ticks all the boxes.
Note; there is extra hospital cover on this plan ie Blackrock Clinic and Mater Private hospital cover. Orthopaedic and some cardiac cover was
already allowed on current plan, but any other surgery would have a 2 year waiting applied only for any pre-existing illnesses they already have
in relation to these 2 hospitals only. All other hospitals are fully covered as before, no change.
Any new illnesses/conditions arising in the future will be covered in these 2 hospitals, no waiting applies.
The following plan, just to show a comparison, is similar coverwise to Essential Connect Family at a much lower price. It does not have
day to day cover. Its a typical example of how you can switch to a lower priced plan with similar or better cover and save a pile.
2. Laya Essential Health 300; price 895pa; all public, private and Beacon hospital covered. Cardiac and orthopaedic surgery fully covered in
Mater Private and Blackrock Clinic. Private hospital excess 300 x 2 max per year for all admissions, day case excess 125 per procedure.
No excess to pay in any public hospital. No day to day cover on this plan.
