Hi

Im been made redundent and finish work tomorrow evening do my last day is 31/12/07 as Im due some holidays. What paperwork should I get tomorrow.
Thanks for any feedback

Sorry to hear that. You should get your P45, an RP1 (Notice of Redundancy) form and any outstanding pay/payslips (including pay in lieu of holidays, redundancy payments etc.). You should sign on immediately. You may also be able to claim a (presumably small at this stage of the year) amount of tax back via a [broken link removed].

Just to clarify, the notice of statutory redundancy form is now an RP50, which also serves as the redundancy certificate. Statutory redundancy is relevant if you have more than 2 years service (see www.entemp.ie)

You should sign on immediately.

You should sign on the 2nd Jan (SW closed 1st) , as you will have been paid up to 31st Dec per your post. SW will not take a claim from you prior to this. And you don't need to wait until the P45 is processed, you can bring that in later on.

Welfarite,

Someonw I know was refused social welfare as she couldn't get a p45. She was told that her application would be put on hold until she got it - and I can promise, given her circumstances, her employer won't provide her with one.

Any ideas?

She was not refused because she couldn't produce a P45. Reading between the lines, the probable reason was that the p45 was required to prove that she had enough contributions (39) paid to qualify for JB.

She was "put on hold" until this could be done and would have been offered the opportunity to apply for means-tested JA in the interim. The employer cannot hold her to ransom as he is legally obliged to provide her with a P45.

Apologies for errors on both counts!

1.
Your employer cannot refuse to issue you with a P45 of course in the real world they do. Many years ago my young brother was messed about like this so two of us went with him and made such a fuss in reception we got the P45.
Get a large male to accompany you and create a fuss etc. Primitive, I know but you have got to swim with the sharks.

2.
Go to the public counter of the tax office in Cathedral Street Dublin and claim your tax back

3.
Also, if you are made redundant you should present yourself after signing on to your local Health Centre Relieving Officer. They can arrange to pay the interest % of your Mortgage monthly payment (but not the capital sum %) they will not pay arrears so don't delay in reporting to them. Also you are entitled to Medical Card, Rent Allowance (if applicable) School Clothes and 'Hardship' emergency money. Please phone citizens advice and write down all your entitlements and go and claim them.

Social Welfare will not advise you of your entitlements and to the new comer this may not be apparent.

Any way you will probably get a new job soon. Good luck

Just to clarify, SW can only advise you on your social welfare entitlements.

Medical Card, Rent/Mortgage supplements, Back to school stuff and emergency payments all fall under the remit of the HSE, dealt with by the Community Welfare Officer in your local Health Centre.

If you do not get your P45, contact revenue with your employers number if you have it. They take this very seriously. They are normally pretty good at sorting it out.

And www.citizensinformation.ie should be able to advise you on your general entitlements.

I'd imagine a "friendly" phone call from the the Tax Office would be enough to prompt the employer to get their affairs in order...nobody likes to be under the Revenue microscope! ;)

Just to clarify! :) My point is that you need to approach Social Welfare and the HSE clued up before join the queue and sit at the window.... They don't hold your hand and advise you of all your entitlements they just process what you apply for. So if you don't ask you don't get. This was my own personal experience some years ago, glad to say my time with them was very short lived.
