has anyone any views on the Panda bin collection service as an alternative to the County Council collection in Fingal, Dublin (or anywhere else they do it)?

With the new annual service charge coming in with the Fingal system (E110 a year) as well as the continuation of the bin tags system (E8 a pop) the Panda monthly fee of E23.50 (and no bin tags) certainly seems cheaper.

I'm just wondering - what's the catch? Is there one? Anyone signed up and using the Panda system? would love to hear of your experiences.

Are there any problems with signing out of the Fingal system? Do they take back their bins or would I be left with 3 Panda bins and 3 Fingal bins (yikes!!)
 
Hi babydays, i too am in Fingal and am considering changing. Greenstar are offering a €55 fixed yearly charge compared to Fingal's €110. They go by bin weight and say that the normal black bin that costs €8.00 per tag with Fingal compares to €7.18 with them. They also have 2 green bin collections like Fingal which are free. Seems a no brainer to me but I don't know much about them....anyone currently use them or switched to them. Maybe they'll hike up the prices next year when they are up and running. I'll also check out Panda
 
Saw this subject and thought someone was keeping an unusual pet and was looking to offload their poo for garden compost!! :eek:
 
We use Panda (south Dublin) and find them good.
You can put glass,plastics and paper into the Green bin which is very handy and its collected every 2 weeks.
The county council bin and oxygen bin were replaced with the Panda ones so you still only have the 2.

Yep - they sent a notice in the door about 4-5 months ago saying that glass was now included.Probably have'nt updated their website.
Ring them if you want to confirm.
 
They definitely take glass - even says so on the side of their trucks.

Also soon after I switched to them I noticed some houses had two green bins left out and as I normally had one green bin filled after a week I rang them to enquire about getting a second one. They said no problem and I had it later that week.

Also one thing I notice is on the Tuesday following bank holidays the council truck normally zips around at 7 am (usually thery're on my road at 9 am) - the binmen obviously hoping people have forgotten its Tuesday not Monday - whereas the Panda truck comes at its normal hour (in my road between 9 and 10).
 
Signed up with Panda a few weeks back and they took away our 3 old Fingal bins. Was talking to the Panda guy and he told us to put glass into our black bin as they recycle about 75% of everything in that anyway (makes you wonder why you need 3 bins but anyway). No complaints with their service so far and no more messing around with bin tags, also said I could cancel at any stage

Yes - but the difference is you're charged if you put the glass in your black bin (weight charge as well as collection charge) but you're not if its in the green bin. Two green bins - charge = zero.

Panda don't do pay by weight though....at least not yet

They do in Dublin south. Might be different in your area.

One problem with them is they don't do an itemised bill. just X number of lifts at whatver the charge is plus XKgs at €X.

I've had to get onto them each time I got a bill for a breakdown
 
I'm in Fingal and switched to Panda 6 months ago, you get black, green and brown bins, black and green collected one week, black and brown the next, they don't take glass yet in Fingal. Couldn't fault them so far. Great not having to buy bintags!
 
Sorry for dragging this up. But how are you getting on with it now. Its is actually cheaper?
 
I moved to Greenstar about a year ago and can't fault them. Seems much cheaper as the 'purple' (black) bin is done by weight. No more bin tags thankfully. They send a text the night before bin day reminding you of which bins they are collecting. Also gave me two green bins free of charge. They collect black bin every week and green/brown every alternate week with no split black/brown week like I used to have with fingal.

I have also noticed that my neighbours who haven't moved across are having diffs with Fingals new Green bin collections - they moved the day from Thursday to Friday, and either turn up late in the evening or on Saturday a.m. They issued new timetable before xmas but never turned up on the days on it apparently they had sent the wrong timetable and have only realised their mistake now!
