Paint cracking in parts

I've recently removed 2/3 layers of wallpaper that was on the walls of my house for I assume thirty years or so

I used an industrial steam cleaner - there was no damage done to the walls.

I didn't use a primer on the plaster underneath and I've put two coats of white undercoat on.

There are four or five parts of the wall with 2inch x 2inch spots where the paint is peeling off - I assume because I didn't use a primer

Is there anything I can do restrospectively - I now want to paint the walls with top coat...

Hi niallo, did you clean off all the wall paper paste with sugar soap or did you sand the walls before you painted them?

If not then you might have to sand those areas that are cracking and then clean with sugar soap then prime (white emulsion mixed with PVA glue), then finish coat.

I know some posters (not you niallo) think painting is just a matter of picking up a brush and slopping it on but there is far more to it than meets the eye.
 
hey niallo,also worth considering is my favorite product " B.I.N primer" zinnzer make it,you will get it in most good paint shops, coat all the walls with this stuff and you will have no problem.just be carefull with it as its extreamly difficult too remove so tape up everything and use proper drop cloths.once you put it on,leave it a few hours before you put on a finish coat of paint,then wait 24 hrs for the second coat of finish paint as it will take the 1st coat a long time too dry on top of the primer,i hope you can follow my instructions keep us updated mate.
 
Thanks for the replies guys - a painter/decorator friend of mine is coming in the morning to sand and apply a solution

I'll know for future reference to prepare properly!

As the old phrase goes fail to prepare...prepare to fail.

Or when in doubt call in the professionals.

How many parts white emulstion to PVA glue would you recommend mixing? Thanks.
 
Looks perfect now - decorater friend did as described above and I sanded down
