Hi all,

Has anyone had involvement in a small business which had to ship relatively large parcels e.g, small furniture items?

What sort of volume is involved to get any business/bulk benefits?

What are the considerations when parcels are on the larger end of the scale? I know as a individual customer a few weeks ago I was trying to get a box over 20kg and 1.2M in length shipped and it was very difficult to get a solution, and the one we found was not far off 80euro for domestic.

Context is business planning for a small enterprise.

Realistically DPD will be the only possible solution

They tend to look for volume of 30+ per week, but if they have a collection close to you, that could drop.

Another alternative is to co-op with another DPD customer who may have the volume - pay them a small fee or payment in kind for access to their label system and pay them per parcel. You could get rates as low as €5 + vat

DPD will allow for 31kg. Dimensions are quite generous with 1.2m being the largest length/width. Box does have to be standard shape so that it can be carried on the conveyor belts.

Once you are over 31kg or over 1.2m, its effectively a pallet and there you are looking at €60-€70 per delivery. Heath and safety concerns come into play at that weight & size.

So try and compress the items to the size needed + Strong regular size box. Then contact DPD for a quote.

BTW - for small quantities of boxes try re-box on Killen road in dublin 12
