You don't need either a P60 or a P45 to claim medical expenses . - If you just send Med 1 to tax office along with a short note , I am sure they will process it as you request .
You appear to have 6 months unused tax credits ( if you were unemployed from July to Dec 09 ) and if so , you should have enough to cover a tax refund of Medical Exp.
It would be ideal of course to have a copy of your P45 and a certificate of earnings from Social Welfare for 2009 , and then you can see the full picture before applying to the tax office for balancing statement .
Look again at your P45 earnings for the 6 months of 2009 and you may well be entitled to claim some PRSI as well , and even more if you qualified and received a medical card while unemployed for the 6 months to 31st Dec 2009.
If you paid tax on the redundancy portion of your P45 earnings , inform the tax office that you wish to claim ' top slicing relief '
