Hello: I have been working for a same employer for last two years. And just got P60 form(2009) last week. With that am I able to claim tax back or what am I supposed to do with it. I would love to hear. Since this is the first time to get it.

Also I realized that although I was working full time in the year of 2008, never got the form. Any suggestion with it?

Thank you very much!

The P60 for 2009, Read it carefully and check that all the figures are correct ie. the amount of income received, the amount of tax paid but most importantly check the PRSI details. If your have any doubts send a copy to revenue and request a P21.

Keep that P60 in a safe place forever

Go back to your employer for 2008 P60 and follow the same instructions

To claim tax back , you need to claim tax credits that are not already been given to you .
Check the tax credits at www.revenue.ie and you should send you P60 to your tax office.

If you answer 'yes' to any of the following questions , you should be able to increase your yearly tax credits in 2009 - ( and other years )
  1. Did I pay union dues
  2. Did I pay for emptying wheelie bins / rubbish disposal
  3. Did I pay a doctor etc
  4. Did I pay for prescriptions
  5. Did I pay private rent
  6. Did I have work expenses
There are many other allowances also on the revenue website .

You do not need to go after your employer for tax year 2008 .

All you need to do , is send a letter to revenue with your PPS No. and request a balancing statement for 2008 , ( include any of the above tax credits you feel you may be entitled to . )

You can also apply online - ( google paye anytime )
