Hi

I was made redundant nearly 2 years ago and so I went on Job Seekers. A few months on Job Seekers I became ill and was advised by Social Welfare to then go onto Illness Benefit which I am still in receipt of. My husband left me so I am also getting OPFP (its been a bad couple of years!!!)

I am a book-keeper and have been offered to do work for a company from home. It would probably be about 2 hrs a week and paying me €20 per hour.

I presume I would loose my Illness Benefit and would I also be taken off OPFP?

I would love to take on this work but would need to know what difference it will make to me financially?

Ordinarily you can't work and claim illness benefit at the same time, though there are some exceptions made for "work of a rehabilitative nature" - you could contact Illness Benefit section to see if this might apply to you.

You are allowed earn some money and keep all of your One-Parent Family Payment, you'd certainly be under the limit if you will be earning €40 pw.

Thanks for the reply.

Would my best option be to talk to my local Community Welfare Officer?
