Does anyone think this has implications for over-70s mortgages in Ireland more generally? Could it lead to lenders offering mortgages for over-70s on the basis of age discrimination if they refuse to offer their products to this cohort? Not holding my breath. The UK offers quite a diverse range of products to older borrowers.
Avant Money has been ordered to pay over €8,000 to a man whose broker said he could not apply for a mortgage switch with the financial institution because he was aged over 70.
I don't think so, but only from my limited reading over the weekend.
The real issue here was that Avant DO lend beyond 70th birthday, but their broker did not even allow them to apply on basis of age at time of application.
Then they handled the complaint really badly.
