outdoor socket, is this safe?

you can buy a plugin RCD adapter that will trip if needs be .... something like this:

can i plug into wall? Or could I get something like that is tesco or woodies? Do not like the hassle of ebay
 
If you have an Rcd in your mcb board then this is fine. An mcb board has all the circuit breakers in it, but not all houses necessarily have an mcb board depending on how old the house is..
 
House 3 years old should have the mcb on it but getting the item I posted about is added safety. You just plug it in and then plug your extension into it.

I always used a plug in RCB when using the lawnmower but now its packed up.

Is it true that the RCB unit on fuseboard is all that is required as I would be inclined to think it is but then again does that malfunction or burn out as I'm sure they do:confused:

the second one is just like what i bought, with a spike etc, JCB brand and says use with an RCD. i will get the first one. ta
 
There's absolutely no need for a second one. Its overkill.. A 3 year old house would definitely have its sockets protected by an rcd.

Thanks Leo. Do you know if it is OK to join two of the power spike together i.e. first to wall then the next to the second in garden. cannot get one long enough.
 
As a curiosity I checked my board and I have an ELCB trip switch, which I understand is a precursor to RCD. I am going to get an RCD adaptor

[broken link removed] All sockets should have RCD's? Even with the ELCB trip switch on the board?
 
All sockets should be protected by an RCD. A single RCD in the consumer unit will do the job.
