Ok so out insurance for car and they don’t offer ncb protected. I’ve over 20 years no claims. If I move to them what’s the consequences of not protecting my no claims bonus ? If I decide to move insurance do I start from scratch with no ncb or if unlucky to have an accident will my premium sky rocket. ?

Any experience on anyone with out insurance & also do people have a ncb on house insurance ?

Thanks.

“OUTsurance don't offer the ability to protect your no claims discount.”

Shopping around is usually the smartest way to get a great deal on insurance. A protected no-claims discount can make that harder, because it typically only stays intact if you stick with the same insurer. At OUTsurance, every part of your cover is designed to give you real value – no costly add-ons and we don’t build in features that may discourage you from switching. Instead, we price your policy fairly from the start, based on your actual driving history. That way, your good record speaks for itself - no strings attached.

I don't think it's that common but it's mentioned here.

Most insurers only consider the previous 6-9 years, and they will generally issue a notice a Proof of No Claims for a similar period. These should be included with the renewal pack the insurers are obliged to send you at least 20 working days before the policy expires.

It's important to note that taking out a No Claims Bonus protection does not mean you can move to another insurer with a clean slate should you have a claim. Any such claim will have to be notified to prospective insurers which may result in them loading or even refusing to offer cover.

Isn't it the case that an (e.g. fully) insured NCD means that the relevant discount percentage still applies to the base premium but after a claim the base premium itself will most likely still increase?

That applies with the current insurer, but when shopping around having insured the NCD generally doesn't carry weight if there has been a claim.

Yes, sorry, I was assuming that to be the case - i.e. NCD insurance (generally or always?) only works if you stay with the same insurer.
